5 Tips to Help You Maintain Work-Life Balance
As spring gives way to summer, the mortgage and real estate businesses can get a bit hectic. With that in mind, here are a few tips to help you manage stress and maintain a healthy work-life balance during the busy season.
- Decide what’s important, and prioritize it.
This isn’t just about your most important work tasks. It’s also about deciding what you need outside of work to remain happy and productive. - Stay connected.
Networking comes naturally for many mortgage bankers, but sometimes you need to branch out beyond the social mixers and industry events and make time for friends and family. - Remember self-care. If you don’t take care of yourself, you run the risk of burning out, becoming anxious or making mistakes at work. Make sure you get plenty of sleep, and eat and hydrate properly. Create morning and nighttime routines, including quiet time for relaxing activities such as reading or meditation. And don’t forget to exercise; it’s a great way to manage stress.
- Create a schedule, and stick to it. Block out personal commitments just as you would work-related projects and meetings. Reserve time for even the most trivial and redundant tasks, such as answering emails. These little tasks can eat away at your time throughout the day, so it’s best to address them in small chunks and move on. But expect the unexpected, and leave a little flexibility in your schedule for when it happens.
- Learn to say no. You can’t do everything, and by saying no to things that are less important, you free up time and energy to focus on the things that truly matter.
